Checkbox with Label

This richtext example https://github.com/firebase/firepad/blob/master/examples/richtext.html adds a custom checkbox element which is awesome, but for styling reasons I'd like to add another <label> element after each checkbox.

Example structure: <input type="checkbox"><label></label>

How can this be achieved?
