Is there a way to install PHP and not install Apache? Since I am
already using PoW? Also, where would I go to learn how to install PHP.

note: my OS is Ubuntu 9.10

Yes. Try a download on this page.

http://php.net/downloads.php

It should come with php-cli, which is the prefered PHP version for POW
CGI.

What would the terminal wording be?

I mis-wrote. Find sapi/cgi/php-cgi in your download, then run

php-cgi test.php

$ ./php-cgi test.php
X-Powered-By: PHP/5.2.4
Content-type: text/html

OK

I also noted that the executable flag was not set on my makepipe.sh
file. I will correct that in the future.
