I'm setting up a computer for some folks who aren't very tech-savy and
I want to setup Firefox as their browser (I figure it'll be a little
easier and more secure for them to use). I've almost got it
completely setup, but there's one problem that's preventing me from
using Firefox over IE. I can't find a way to keep the Error Console
from popping up and displaying. The people who are going to use this
will just get confused by the Error Console window popping up and
they'll think they broke the machine or something. I don't want to
have to tell them and keep reminding them what to do when it shows up,
so I'd like to turn it off completely. I've checked about:config
settings, preferances, searched addons, and googled all I can to find
a solution to this.

Bottom line: How do I disable the Error Console so it never pops up?

I've never actually seen the Error Console pop up unless I clicked
somewhere for it, either through the Tools or the Web Developer
extension. That's weird; I wish I could help.

Hey, I've got the same problem on my own PC.
Actually I haven't seen this console before...
It appeared right after I installed Dreamweaver and set the Firefox as
the default testing browser.
Now I'm wondering if other users using my site will see the same
error.
The think I hate the most is that I used a primitive popup script, and
the error console gave me a bunch of the errors, which do not appear
to take place in IE.
Isn't there a setting of the error-levels or something?
I would be grateful if someone would provide me with the information
regarding this issue... :)

js3kh0n, I had this problem too, on one of three or four similarly
configured Linux / OSX machines. When I disabled the Web Developer
Extension (1.1.14 I think) it went away. So ... try disabling some of
your extensions and see if that helps. There may be an option in the
web dev extension to make that (hella annoying) popup appear, but I
couldn't find it to disable it. Luckily Firebug does a pretty fly
job ... I like Web Dev Ext too, but I can use it on any of the other
three machines.

I had this problem with the web dev extension too, but there's a
setting in Options => Miscellaneous that allows you to stop showing
the console on every type of error. I'm not sure if this is the
problem js3kh0n had, but it sounds like the same one as chris burgess.

As for ignoring it, that's pretty hard to do when an onkeypress event
throws an error and you have to switch between windows after every
entered keystroke. Even if you leave the window open, firefox brings
it to the front of the zindex and your form loses focus... very
annoying!

Hope that helps someone.
