Firefox 3.6.13 on Fedora 14 will not find and install Flash Plugin.

Firefox 3.6.13 does not find and install the libflashplayer.so file no
matter where I put it.
I went directly to the Adobe Flash site and tried every download
option for linux imaginable.
First I tried installing via yum, then rpm then good old tar.gz. All
of those methods created the libflashplayer.so file and moved it to
the correct directory for installing plugins for Firefox, in either
the ~/.mozilla/plugins directory or the /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins/
directory.
So now I have more than 1 libflashplayer.so file in every concievable
directory that Firefox could look for the flashplayer plugin, but
Firefox still can't find it. What am I doing wrong?
