Hi!

Funny thing: Tried it yesterday at home and couldn't find anything on
your page http://robertnyman.com/firefinder/ via CSS search. Tried
some other pages and some work and others don't.
Firefox 3.0.10 on MacOS 10.5.7

Today I've tried it on a Windows XP system. CSS search works
everywhere. Firefox 3.0.10.

Regards,
Stefan

Hmm, interesting. Wondering if can be cache-related in any way.
I have the exact same main setup when I work: Mac OS X 10.5.7 and
Firefox 3.0.10, and I have never experienced that.

Have you found any logic in recreating it, or know any certain
circumstances?

Best regards,
Robert

Sorry, can't find anything special about the pages. First I thought
only correct HTML is needed. Then I thought it only works on XHTML.
But there's no real pattern.

Doesn't find anything on:
http://www.opensourcereleasefeed.com/article/show/firefinder-for-firebug-a-quick-overview
http://robertnyman.com/firefinder/
http://chneukirchen.org/blog/

Everything OK:
http://www.no-spoon.de/
http://www.heise.de/
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Main_Page
http://randpass.floor500.net/

All pages tested with a simple "a" in CSS search. "//a" in XPath
search always works.
(Just checked with "A" and it's the same.)

Stefan

Hi Stefan,

Thanks for taking the time to test!
I've tested the same pages, with the same set-up as you have, and with a single "a" (without quotes, naturally) as the parameter, and I get results (attached screenshots).

My only idea/thinking is that you might have tried to run the selector before the page has finished loading. Besides from that, I don't know what it could be. Maybe a bit far-fetched, but perhaps a collision with some other extension? Have you tried disabling every other extension (but Firebug of course) and checked if it works then?

If the problem persists, and you see any pattern, please let me know!

Best regards,
Robert

Hi,

I should also mention that it has come to my attention that Firefinder
won't work in web sites that you have activated the extension NoScript
for.
While I can't really get around this, since Firefinder needs to run
scripts in the actual page, it's good to know in case you stumble upon
this problem.

Best regards,
Robert

Hi Robert,

NoScript!

Arghl. Of course. It was NoScript. I've allowed JavaScript for some
domains like heise.de (IT news) and my own.

Sorry, this was too easy. Should have seen it.

Thanks!

Regards,
Stefan

Hi,

Ah, no worries, it's not your fault; It wasn't evident to me either.
Glad that we know have an explanation at least! :-)

Best regards,
Robert
