Firebug seems to be the culprit of various keyboard problems in
Firefox. Symptoms are: Page Up, Page Down, Home, End and cursor keys
stop working, pressing ' (quote) or / (forward slash) brings up Quick
Search, despite having a text area selected, backspace goes to the
previous page, despite having a text area selected, and other problems.

The problem is further discussed at the following website:
http://www.adammessinger.com/2005/12/20/firefox-find-bug-fix

I have only recently discovered that you can solve the problem by
exclusively disabling the Firebug extension. Firebug is an incredibly
useful tool that is an excellent extension to Firefox for developers
such as myself. The discussed problem, however, makes it mandatory to
disable it when not in use.

Is this problem known? Is there any work-around, for the time being?

Thanks in advance!

This does not occur on a fresh install of Firefox, however. Clearly,
this is some sort of clash between add-ons. I will look into this
further when I have time.

The problem can quickly be avoided by losing focus of Firefox, and then
selecting it again.

A quick follow-up: using a fresh installation of Firefox, I can
reproduce the problem by installing Firebug and HTML Validator
(https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/249/). Upon restart, the symptoms
are immediately present.

I will also notify the author of HTML Validator.

A quick update: I've notified Marc Gueury, author of HTML Validator as
well. Below is some more information on reproducing the problem.

Basically, what it comes down to, is that if I install a fresh version
of Firefox 2.0 with Firebug and HTML Validator, the I'm confronted with
the following problem: (1) all keyboard-based page navigation (Home,
End, Page Up, Page Down and cursor keys) seize to work, (2) despite
having a text field selected, when pressing ' (quote) or / (forward
slash) the Quick Find bar pops up, and (3) when enabling Type Ahead,
despite having a text field selected, Quick Find pops up when I press
any letter or number as well.

I don't know if the problem lies in Firebug or HTML Validator, but when
they're both installed, I find I have to loose focus on Firefox and
reselect Firefox for the problem to disappear.

You can easily reproduce the problem, if you wish, by installing
Firebug next to your extension. Restart Firefox and -- without loosing
focus of Firefox -- browse to a page where you would need to scroll up
and down. Attempt to press Page Up or Page Down and you will most
likely find that nothing happens. The other symptoms should be
observable as well. I emphasize that you should not loose focus of
Firefox as this temporarily solves the problem until restart.

I'm running Firefox 2.0.0.1 on Windows XP Professional without any
other extensions installed (at the moment).

I've installed the new 1.b9 and there are still problems between the
HTML Validator and Firebug.
Looking at the console it shows just as Firefox loads:

Error: too much recursion
Archivo fuente: chrome://global/content/bindings/textbox.xml
Línea: 133

and if I try to use the History menu none of the previous pages shows
and these two errors appear:
Error: this._windows[aWindow.__SSi] has no properties
Archivo fuente:
file:///C:/Archivos%20de%20programa/Mozilla%20Firefox/components/nsSessionStore.js
Línea: 648
