past 2 days I have noticed that when I open a "New window" in FF the
behavioue of the new window was a bit odd, for example the only way to
refresh a page was by re entering the URL, and the "back button" was
no longer visible as a button or as a menu item (grayed out) . When I
went back to the original window everything worked perfectly and if I
created a new tab in the original window the issues did not exist. the
problem was confined to "new windows".

After going to safe mode an disabling all addons the issues
disappeared. SO one-by-one I started to enabling each add on and
checking if the problem had reoccured, only when I enabled firebug did
the issues start again.
Anyone else experiencing this?

I just tested this, here are my steps

0) Firefox 5, Firebug 1.8
1) Start Firefox, http://www.google.com/ loaded by default (set as the
home page).
2) Open Firebug UI (F12)
3) Pick Firefox -> File -> New Window
4) www.google.com loaded automatically in that new window
5) Load getfirebug.com in the new window
6) Press back button works, I am seeing again google.com

Does these steps work for you?

If not, what are your exact steps, so I can reproduce the problem on
my machine?

I really believe that FireBug v1.8 is somehow interfering with some of
the functionalities of FireFox,

Go into Safe Mode, disable all addons, then enable *only* firebug and
see if you still have the issue.

You may have a conflict with another addon.

I can reproduce it only when _both_ HTML Validator 0.9.0.6 and Firebug 1.8 enabled in FF5.
When one of them is disabled, all goes normally, so it looks like addons conflict.

That's was what I did to come to the conclusion Firebug 1.8 is the cause of the problem!
I have switched back to FireBug 1.7.3 and the problem has gone
