I installed a new printer recently and it comes with a browser plugin
called: HP Smart Web Printing v4.6
but after installation, Firebug stopped working. Is this a know
issue?
I disabled the HP plugin and Firebug started working again.

What I notice when FB and HP Smart Web Printing plug-ins are both
active:
* the firbug icon is grey
* the Firbug menu under "Tools" doesn't open

Ironically the technology article on HP Smart Web Printing recommends
Firebug:
http://webhome.cs.uvic.ca/~jbaldwin/diva/fp43470_baldwin.pdf
Sadly the article says there is some problem with using Firebug but
they failed to report the problem as a bug. Too bad Web developers
have such low expectations. As soon as they see a problem with a dev
tool they typically just assume that it can't be fixed I guess.

I have no idea why this is happening, but if you create a bug report
with specific instructions for installing the plugin and reproducing
the problem maybe we can look into it.

I learned from one of the authors that this article was not about the
technology in HP Smart Web Printing.

Unfortunately this article was never about HP Smart Web Printing but
about an academic project to create a different product called
PrintMonkey. The line that reads

"We recommend Firebug [3] in order to see what the actual errors are.
Unfortunately due to issues with using multiple JavaScript files,
Firebug cannot display the actual JavaScript that caused the error to
occur, but only the actual line."

This was due to the nature of PrintMonkey which requires users to
create their own templates using code similar to HTML. This was not to
say there was any issue with using FireBug, just that someone
debugging their own template may have issues debugging their own
printing template. There was never any issue with FireBug not running
as this user reports.

Sorry, can't be of further help here :)

I will try to open a bug report.
The printer I have is the
HP Deskjet F2430 All-in-One Printer
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/product?product=3964426&lc=en&cc=sg&dlc=en&lang=en&cc=sg

It comes with the software I mentioned before.  I did a default installation.
I had firebug already installed and working before I installed the HP Smart Web Printing plug-in.
Then I noticed the problem.
The firebug icon was greyed out and the Menu item (Tools->Firebug) didn't expand, the firebug console didn't show after I clicked the icon.
