Where do you come off with such an arrogant statement, "Firebug is a
web developer tool." as if it were the Word of God. You think you
"OWN" Firebug and what it's for? You fool.
Well, maybe I should have expressed myself a bit different. We develop Firebug in the first place for web developers. Of course people can use it for other purposes, too.
Just for clarification: I am working on Firebug voluntarily and without any payment in my spare time. And I am doing that, because I want to help people and make their lives a bit easier. And Firebug is free to everyone.
The reason why I asked you to explain, why Firebug could need a feature like this, is to avoid implementing things, that another one already does much better, and things, that are not fitting to the main purpose of Firebug. And if you could give a good reason, then I would be the last one to say no.
In this case I believe, that Adblock Plus already covers exactly what you need.
Firebug is invaluable for EVERYONE who wants to know more about what
Firefox is doing and how to modify what it does as well as build
gadgets.
I do use it for development. In this case I want to develop a way not
to "hide" adverts, Sebastian.
If you mean to set filters in a tool for preventing ads and other third party stuff being loaded, then this is not developing.
Ok, I made another mistake. Adblock Plus
is preventing requests to such pages. Simple example to show that:
- Open Firebug on GMX having Adblock Plus disabled for that site
- Enable and switch to the Net panel
- Reload the page using Ctrl+F5
⇒ You will see something about 139 requests listed - Now enable Adblock Plus for that site
- Reload the page again using Ctrl+F5
⇒ Now you will just see about 87 requests for that site
So Adblock Plus really prevents "third parties from butting in" as you describe it. And all I did to find that out was to use Firebug.
And if you're still not completely happy with that, please note, that you can adjust the filters of Adblock Plus.
If you're not concerned about people's privacy at all, then you're
likely a perpetrator.
Believe me, I am not and blinking ads and sniffing third party websites annoy me as much as you.
And before you're starting to claim, that I am making that much advertisement for Adblock Plus, I tell you, that I am simply a satisfied user of it. Not more.
So I would really appreciate, if you stopped insulting me.
Sebastian
