I was shocked when I opened up Firefox (5) this morning and my beloved
Firebug was gone. Not in the main bar, not in the addons bar, not
even in the context menu (right-click). I checked the Tools>Addons
area and FireBug was there. I tried many things including upgrading
to 1.8.1...then downgrading to 1.7.3...still gone. I changed the
extensions.firebug.showStatusIcon to true...nothing. Finally, I
disabled all my other addons and restarted. As if by magic, FireBug
was back. I then re-enabled all the sub-firebug addons like
firecookie, firephp, firediff, etc. After restart, FireBug was gone
again. I went one-by-one disabling the sub-addons and restarting.
Once I disabled FirePHP, everything was back as normal. I re-enabled
the other sub-addons without incident. I then Upgraded back to 1.8.1
and everything is still good.

In summary: Firefox 5 + Firebug 1.7.3(and up) + FirePHP = No FireBug

I hope this will help any debugging needed for FireBug and FirePHP.

I am getting this too, and I am on Firefox 6 beta with Firebug 1.8.1 and FirePHP 0.6.0.

Thanks for posting this; I would have been lost once things updated themselves.

Thanks I was suddenly freaked this morning by the disappearance of
Firebug
I had been using Firefox 5 and both add ons.
So maybe it is a point version update that messed things up.
Anyway thanks again, I disabled FirePHP and I am back in business

Thanks. This post saved me a lot of debugging and hair.

I'm on ff5, on ubuntu 10.04. fb 1.81

I did updated my whole system via apt-get a few hours ago, and then
restarted my computer. After the restart, fb was no longer accessible.
I did a little googling and found this post. I disabled firephp,
restarted ff and fb was immediately available again.

I'm not sure what apt changed.
