My firebug recently started playing up.

First the new 36 beta of firefox it wouldn't open. Resetting the firebugs settings fixed that, but now firebug will not remember any activation settings at all.

Sites that I activate firebug for are forgotten at browser close. It could be a side effect of the settings reset, but does anyone have any ideas how to get the activation settings to stick?

It happened with last two beta updates (4 & 5 i think)

Firebug doesn't open immediately after browser start by default since version 1.10. You need to open it manually once before it gets opened automatically for all pages you activated it before.
You need to set the preference extensions.firebug.delayLoad to false in order to let it open right after the browser start.

I know that & expect that.

Once I activate firebug for a site - I expect that site to always activate firebug. My firebug & firefox has been behaving like that for a while, but now it won't do that, but I have no problem on other systems with the exact same firefox/firebug configuration with delayload set to true..

I repeat:
I have to manually activate firebug every single time I visit a site that I would expect firebug to automatically activate for. Its like the activation settings won't stick.

Then you should check whether it actually saves the information for which sites it is enabled in the annotations.json file.
A description for how to find that file can be found within the first aid page.
