I used to have the firebug icon on the bottom right in the so called
status bar, but it is no longer there. Is there a way I can get it
back there. I am used to it being there.

Same problem here. Add-on bar is still there, with the icons for two
other add-ons I'm running (Test Pilot, and Color Picker)... but the
icon for Firebug is gone. Seems to have happened with the 1.8 update.

Hello,

This question should probably have a detailed answer, like an FAQ. Many people are not going to understand the brilliant subtlety of the difference between an "add-on bar" and a "status bar." And the actions required to move the FB icon from the menu bar to the "add-on bar" aren't necessarily intuitive, either.

Thanks.

There's a usability bug here. I saw the firebug icon in the top right
but because it has a drop down arrow I only thought to click that,
rather than the bug icon itself. Now I click the bug icon I see
firebug panel no problems.

I think the problem is that it looks like clicking the firebug icon
will have the same action as the drop down arrow. I'd definitely add
a "Show firebug panel" option to the menu and revisit the button
design. Given the number of comments this is getting on the threads I
think this is definitely a significant UI problem.

Good point! I added it at http://getfirebug.com/wiki/index.php/FAQ#Firebug_Icon_in_Firefox_4.0.2B

Anthony, I don't want to offend you, but did you never see a split
button?
E. g. Office suites like MS Office or OpenOffice use them for their
background and text color buttons.

But obviously you're not the only one complaining about the current
solution, so we really should rethink that.
Probably the easiest solution would be to set
extensions.firebug.showStatusIcon to true by default, because it also
doesn't make sense to me, that the Start Button is that far from the
Firebug dialog. Another solution could be to move the dialog up by
default, but that could conflict with the integrated Web Developer
tools of Firefox. So maybe somebody else has a better idea for this.
