I LOVE Firebug and depend on it daily, so I'm really hoping somebody
can give me a clue here. I had to reinstall Firefox, and now I can't
get Firebug installed. Whether I try from the Addons window or
directly from the web page, and even if I go back and install an older
version from the xpi, Firebug looks like it installs just fine, but
when Firefox restarts, it's nowhere to be found. No bug icon in the
status bar, no "Inspect this element" in the context menu, no Firebug
listing in the window of installed Plugins.

I have tried with Firefox 3.0.x and 3.5.5, and firebug 1.4, 1.3, and
1.5b4. I've also tried creating a new profile, and saving the XPI and
dragging it into a FF window. I've tried deleting potentially
corrupted extension files, as described here:

http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Unable+to+install+add-ons#Corrupt_extension_files

Also tried going to

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/downloads/latest/1843

but while it seemed to install Firebug 1.4.5, still nothing happened.

This is all from a fresh Firefox install (two, actually) so I'm
really, really stumped.

Any ideas gratefully appreciated...

Thanks!
