I know that the basis of this project is for use in Firefox, however I
know many people would like to see this extension for Chrome, and now
that v 2.0.180.0 has extension support, it may be a good time to start
working. I'm more of a Web Design person than a programmer. I would be
happy to help out in anyway though.

It would be awesome to have Firebug across multiple platforms, but
it's not as easy as you can imagine. Firebug depends heavily on
certain features which are only present in Firefox, so Chrome should
at least give the same features to start talking about possible
support on that platform.

Personally I have to focus on making Firebug/Firefox jump ahead, but I
suggest that a good place to start would be to get the latest Firebug
Lite and work with it on Chromium, reporting any problems and offering
suggestions. The Lite team is moving their code closer to Firebug/
Firefox and eventually we may restructure to maximize reuse. If
Firefox goes multi-process we may be forced to change our design, and
would likely move in a less-Firefox-centric direction. At the same
time I will be working hard to make debugging on the other browsers
look weak by comparison, so I hope there will always be cool things
that only Firebug/Firefox can do.

I have decided to try and make this into a chrome extension, which
should be reasonably simple.

Hi Jordan,

As JJB suggested, it may be good the take a look in the new Firebug
Lite 1.3 version we're developing, not released yet, which may be
released in the end of July, or August.

The "Lite" version will not cover advanced features like JavaScript
debugging, Net monotoring, and some other things heavily Firefox-
dependent. But on the other hand, it will offers many of the features
of the Firebug/Firefox version, specially the "desginer features" like
inspecting, looking for HTML and DOM attributes, changing CSS
properties, and so on.

We're making deep changes in the core of the 1.3 version, which will
make to application looks more like Firebug/Firefox, and make it more
efficient and more easy to extend. You can help us testing, bug
reports, features suggestion, and/or patches.

If you are interested in test this version, send me a mail and I will
provide you a link to test the 1.3 version (via bookmarlet), it will
give you a good idea of how the next-generation of Firebug Lite
versions will look like. I will not post the link here because the
version is in alpha stage, not stable enough for public release.

my best regards,

Pedro Simonetti.
