Can't use Firebug after installation

Hi-

I just installed Firefox 3.6 and Firebug 1.6.1 tonight. I was having
difficulty, so I checked the FAQ and read some threads on the groups
regarding issues with installation. My problem is that even after
installing Firebug I don't see the icon. That seems to be a recurring
issue, not sure why, new to Firefox. Anyway, I tried the create-a-new-
profile remedy, but that didn't cure the problem - I still don't see a
Firebug icon and when I right-click on a webpage I don't see the
"Inspect XXXX" option in the menu.

Help?!

Thanks,

Jerry

Sorry about the duplicate topic gang, I was trying to edit the
previous topic but created a new topic instead. The purpose of that
edit was to be clear about which versions I was using.

Thanks,

Jerry

Please verify that you have Firebug installed:
Firefox > Tools > Addons > Extensions
Please check the menu for any entry:
Firefox > Tools > Firebug
Open
Firefox > Tools > Error Console
Use URL about:config to add javascript.options.showInConsole true
http://kb.mozillazine.org/Javascript.options.showInConsole
then exit and run Firefox from the OS command line with -jsconsole.

Yes that is correct, it is installed.

No, I don't see this in the Tools menu, sorry.

Thanks John. I did all of this, but the errors I see now are related
to chrome failures. "no element found" was the title.

Huh? Confused. I will try to uninstall and reinstall Firebug under
my profile and see if that helps. Doubt it, but it makes me feel
better to be active, trying something. :-)

Thanks,

Jerry

After re-installation, I see this message:

Failed to load XPCOM component: C:\Program Files\CheckPoint
\ZAForceField\TrustChecker\components\MozillaDownload.dll

And these warnings:
Warning: Expected declaration but found '*'. Skipped to next
declaration.
Source File: http://www.google.com/firefox?client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official
Line: 1

Warning: Expected declaration but found '*'. Skipped to next

Line: 1

Warning: Unknown property 'zoom'. Declaration dropped.
Source File: http://www.google.com/firefox?client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official

Along with this error (and associated warning):
Error: no element found
Source File: chrome://tcextensioncopy/content/startstop.xul
Line: 1

Warning: Failed to load overlay from chrome://tcextensioncopy/content/startstop.xul.
Source File: chrome://browser/content/browser.xul

in the error console. Do I need to re-install Firefox itself?

Thanks,

Jerry

This is another extension, you did not have a clean profile after all.

Just try the new profile process again. Don't bother with reinstalls,
they don't work. Concentrate on the new profile. If you still get
this message, then you have a hacked machine, someone is force-
installing extensions.

Actually, applications can make extensions install to all profiles
(even clean ones) if they install the extension directly to C:\Program
Files\Mozilla Firefox\extensions. Applications like fingerprint
recognition software or the Java Console do this.

The extension that is causing your problem is part of Zone Alarm,
maybe Zone Alarm toolbar?

Create a clean profile again.
If you go to Firefox > Tools > Addons > Extensions do you see anything
relating to Zone alarm or Checkpoint? If you do then disable it and
restart Firefox.
After restarting go back and make sure that it is still disabled.
You should then be able to install Firebug without any issues.

Just to note that extensions can be also installed through registry
(Windows)
