Also, I've recreated each of the available firebug lite versions as git tags (v1.1 to v1.5). You can see those here:

I used tags intead of branches based on the assumption that the older versions are "frozen" and no new commits will be added to them. Instead any fixes or patches will happen on the newest version. Let me know if there is any problem with this, we can reconsider.

Next step is to review and clean up the codebase, update the build instructions, and in general make it easier for anyone to contribute.
