Hi Folks,

I'm using Mac OS10.8, Firefox 23, Firebug 1.7.3. I set breakpoints, but execution never stops at the point. I've reloaded the page, etc and nothing helps. I've tried several javascript code snippets that have no bugs and run fine. So, it appears that Firebug is functionally ignoring my breakpoints. Any ideas on how to get the breakpoints to actually work?

Regards,
Rob

Looks like you ran into the same problem as described in issue issue 6154. The current version of Firebug is 1.12.0. Due to a problem at addons.mozilla.org people are sometimes getting the old version 1.7.3 instead, which doesn't work with current versions of Firefox.
Note that you can also download Firebug 1.12.0 directly from getfirebug.com to avoid that problem. Does downloading that version fix your problem?

Hi Sebastian,

Thanks for the suggestion. That is exactly what happened, I thought I was downloading the current version, but I actually got an older one. So I updated to the Firebug 1.12 and even after restarting, my breakpoints don't work. Lesson learned: Download directly, rather than through Mozilla AddOns. I'm guessing my Firefox has become corrupt as the result of installing the wrong Firefox.

Regards,
Rob

So it sounds like your problem is not solved yet. Do you have a URL and steps to reproduce, so I can check that by myself?

Well, things are getting better. Breakpoints work for anything loaded from the Internet, but a local HTML file with scripts doesn't work. Does Firebug need to work with a network URL, or can it work with a file too?

Sebastian,

Thanks for the help. After shutting down and restarting a few times, everything seems to be working fine. This is my first time using Firebug, so I have a bit of a ramp.

Rob

Normally a browser restart isn't needed anymore, though it doesn't harm. Good to hear that it fixed your problem in this case.

No, debugging should also work fine with local files.
