When I have Firebug enabled on a site with google analytics and or
paypal button the page hangs on "Read www.google-analytics.com" or
"Transffering data from www.paypal.com" in the status window most of
the time. When I disable firebug the page completes 100% of the time.

I guess you have FF 3.0 and Firebug 1.3.3? This sounds like issue
1565,

for which we have no fix.

The problem with that bug is that until mozilla fixes the firefox's
bug that's causing it, it wont be possible to fix it in firebug. You
could use the 1.4 alphas that I think have a work-around for this
issue.
