I am trying to get the "Debug" button to show up in my about:addons.

Can Firebug help me with debugging my extension?

Firebug shows up with the Debug button, but all my other extensions do not show it

How can I use the Debug button for my extension?  Or, if I am approaching this the wrong way, how do I set up my extension debug environment?

FYI - I followed the instructions here:

devtools.debugger.remote-enabled - true
devtools.chrome.enabled - true

Thanks!

Firebug works for websites. While it may display the XUL structures and CSS of your extensions, it is not meant to debug other extensions.

That's already the right starting point. After doing that you'll see a new point within the Firefox menu under Developer called Browser Toolbox. This toolbox looks pretty much the same as the built-in devtools, but allows you inspect and debug the browser UI and code.

For inspecting the browser UI you may also use the tool DOM Inspector.

I think I recall the "Debug" button showing up only for restartless addons. In any case, it should be possible to debug your extension by opening the Browser Toolbox manually, as Sebastian mentions.
