I don't have Linux Mint to test this issue, but reinstall doesn't
help.
Try to create new Firefox profile and install Firebug into it.
https://getfirebug.com/wiki/index.php/Install_Firebug_into_a_clean_profile

Does it help?

I just tested this and it works for me just fine
(Firefox 20, firebug 1.11.2, Win Vista, Notepad++ 6.3.2)

You might want to create a new Firefox profile and install only
Firebug in it, to make sure there are no collisions with other
extensions.(keep your old profile so, you can compare and see what was the problem, if the new profile helps)

Hi,

I absolutely love firebug. Everything works as expected but for this one.

I click on firebug options> open in editor > configure editors..
Then I add a new configuration for notepad++ . I give a name, link to the executable and "-n%line %file" as
arguments (without quotes). Now I test it and notepad++ opens a random page.
Now I close the configure editors Window. Right click on any part of a script and select notepad++: does nothing.
Then I go to test the configuration. clicking on test does nothing.

Same issue with Aptana Studio, though I do not know the arguments to be passed here. But testing first time at least
opens the IDE. Closing and redoing test does nothing.

I am doing this on firefox 20.0.1, firebug 1.11.2 and vista.
Aptana 3.4 and notepad++ 6.3.2

Any idea on what might be causing this. Am I doing it wrong?

Try to install FBTest (Firebug tracing console)
https://getfirebug.com/releases/fbtrace/1.11/fbTrace-1.11.2.xpi

Firebug (icon) menu -> Open Firebug Tracing
Check ERRORS and EXTERNALEDITORS options and repeat your scenario

You can open also Firefox Error Console.
Firefox -> Web Developer -> Error Console

Do you see any errors?

Hi Honza,

I have been using xampp server and only while debugging this way the external editors wont show up. Otherwise
they work great.
Is there a way I can make this feature work while developing on xampp
Also what could be the arguments for opening in aptana.

Regards,
Kalpesh

I don't have experience with xampp, but try to use FBTrace to see
if there are any errors. Perhaps we can fix it?

I don't know, try Aptana discussion group.

Hi,

I checked the error console and I get this error when I open html on localhost\

Error: TypeError: path is null
Source File: chrome://firebug/content/firefox/external-editors/externalEditors.js
Line: 600

Now I think this makes sense because firefox ( or firebug) wouldn't know the absolute path of the files
as they are run on the emulated server.

Any chance I could easily reproduce the problem  on my machine?

Yes you could if you install xampp. It is fairly easy task

http://www.apachefriends.org/en/xampp.html

The installation will create a folder called xampp in your windows installation drive. I do not know about other OS
You place your files in the xampp/htdocs/[your folder name]

Start xampp control panel > start apache module.

Open Firefox> type localhost/[your folder name] in the address bar > navigate to the html file

Activate FireBug> Open External Editor

I have tested this on another machine giving the same error.
Please Let me know if I could be of more help.

Hi,

I confirm that Firebug 2.0 still has this problem. I tested this on Windows. When the URL is http://localhost, it doesn't run the external editor command. It is sad, because most of the development is done on the local machine. This is an amazing feature, if it worked as expected. It works ok when i try on a remote file, but it doesn't do anything on localhost  I configured a proxy script that translates the URL into the filesystem path and then the script opens the editor. In this way I can easily edit long .css or .js files.

This command is correctly running with one of my OS (Linux Mint 10), but don't run with the other (Linux Mint 13) .

I tried to re-install Firefox and Firebug with no changes . Versions for Firefox are both 19.0.2, and for firebug are 1.11.2
