Firebug not installing on Firefox 7.0.1

I have just upgraded to Ubuntu 11.10 and as a result it upgraded my
firefox installation to 7.0.1. I straight away noticed that firebug
was no longer there so I installed the latest release (1.8.3) which is
meant to be compatible, it claims to install it and after a restart
it's not there. I go and check in the extensions and firebug is not
installed, I have tried this a few times as well as trying to install
the latest alpha version but still nothing?

Any help would be appreciated.

Yes, that's correct

I guess, by alpha version you mean Firebug 1.9a3, correct?

I would recommend to create a new Firefox profile and try it again.

Otherwise, if the installation process is broken it isn't a problem
with Firebug.
You should ask AMO (addons.mozilla.org) and/or Firefox platform teams.

Just a little additional hint: Linux can be very restrictive sometimes, so make sure you have writing rights on your profile folder and the extensions folder under it.
You can open the profile folder via Firefox menu > Help > Troubleshooting Information > Open Containing Folder.
If that's not helping, please regard the steps in Honza's comment.

Install Firebug 1.8.2. It is working properly with Mozila Firefox 7.0.1

Umakant, this thread is already about a year old. I'm sure Raymond already has a newer configuration now than FF 7.0.1 + FB 1.8.2.
Note that the current versions are Firefox 15.0 and Firebug 1.10.3.
