Hello Everyone.
I have an accounting package which uses firebird.
I would like to know - In broad terms for a start - how I can access the tables.
any input will be much appreciated.
best regards

Assuming you already have a Firebird server, and the application is not
using Firebird Embedded, then you need to install a query tool, for
example DBeaver, and connect to your database. Query tools usually list
the available tables and allow you to execute SQL statements (some will
help you construct them).

If you want barebones, you can use the isql tool included with Firebird
itself. See
https://www.firebirdsql.org/file/documentation/html/en/firebirddocs/isql/firebird-isql.html
for instructions on using isql.

It is possible to see the tables and their contents using isql, but that is a tool more suitable for developers and database administrators than accountants. Myself, I use Database Workbench and sometimes IB_SQL, but you have other options as well, e.g. FlameRobin is a tool that may be simpler to use than IB_SQL, and free (Database Workbench is very easy to use, but it isn't free).

I have rejected your other message in the moderation queue, because you
were asking for (referrals for) someone to do - I assume paid - work for
you. Such requests are off-topic on firebird-support (in fact, it is
off-topic on any of the current Firebird lists).

Is Firebird-job-board mail list dead?

Yes, because it was on Yahoo Groups, and Yahoo Groups is dead. I see the
website needs to be cleaned up a bit in that regard.

I don't know the content of the rejected email, Mark, but to me it does sound harsh to reject something Firebird related (I assume it was) without proposing a more appropriate place to ask the question (or direct to companies like IB Phoenix).

Just because something is about Firebird, does not automatically make it
on-topic on this list (and in this case, the request was for writing an
add-on for the accounting application, which makes it only tangentially
Firebird-related). And sure, there is a grey area where things are
off-topic, but we will allow it to be posted instead of rejecting (e.g.
questions about unreleased versions), if only to reply to redirect to a
more suitable place. However, I do not consider the message in question
one of those.
