Hi,

a customer of me told me that he has 8000 files in "C:\ProgramData\firebird". They are years old. The most of them are named fb_trace_xxxxx and have the size of zero bytes. He asked me: Why are these files in this folder? Why isn't the system/user temp dir used? Is it safe to use the temp dir and how to do that? Why doesn't firebird deletes this files? Can somebody answer this?

I've looked at my dev PC. I have nearly 10.000 files in this folder too! Is it possible to turn off the creation of the fb_trace_xxxxx files? My application uses fb 3.x embedded if it's a local instllation. Otherwise the fb server is used. I  don't use trace.

Thank you!

Obviously they contain trace data.

For consistency with other internal files.

Yes for experience administrator, no for others.

Because of bugs some of which were already fixed and some are not.

Yes.
