So far I've used firebird 2.5.9 without any problems on Devuan linux. I'm currently using version 5 of Devuan which is the stable one.

Devuan is a Debian for without systemd. I've always used Devuan since it came out because I don't like the systemd backgrounds

It turns out that I installed the file Firebird-5.0.1.1469-0-linux-x64.tar.gz without any problems. The service starts correctly.

I can verify this by giving the following instruction: ps aux firebird 25325 0.0 0.0 8312 440 ? S 10:45 0:00 /opt/firebird/bin/fbguard -pidfile /var/run/firebird/firebird.pid -daemon -f firebird 25326 0.0 0.0 206648 16136 ? Sl 10:45 0:00 /opt/firebird/bin/firebird

But when I check the system with flamerobin I get the following error:

*** IBPP::SQLException ***
Context: Service::Connect
Message: isc_service_attach failed

SQL Message : -923
Connection not established

Engine Code : 335544421
Engine Message :
connection rejected by remote interface

And it doesn't allow me to perform any action. The applications I've developed don't work either.

Best Regards

You must check not only process presence but TCP listener. Also check
firewall rules.

Connection rejected by remote interface usually indicates the client and
server could connect, but could not agree on the protocol options (e.g.
a Firebird 2.5 client talking to a Firebird 5.0 server with wire encrypt
required).

It sounds like you're thinking of "Unable to complete network request to
host ...".

Is there anything listed in firebird.log? Is FlameRobin on the same
machine, or a remote machine? If so, are both using the fbclient of
Firebird 5.0.1 (or at least a recent version greater than 2.5)?

For example, a Firebird 2.5 client talking to Firebird 5.0 with default
settings would produce this error, because by default wire encryption is
required, but a Firebird 2.5 client doesn't support that, which would
result in a rejected connection.

You are right. I got used to program sockets too much and read this error as
"connection refused" (10061).

I don't have it on my work PC or on a dedicated server.

I also set it up at home on my personal PC, which I don't have internet
access on and it doesn't work either.

Thanks to everyone, it seems that I had some applications developed by me
that had Firebird 2.5 libraries, so I had to uninstall those applications.

Now when I try to run an application I get the following error:
cnsc : PrepareStatement :
-COLLATION UNICODE for CHARACTER SET UTF8 is not installed
-An ICU library with collation version 153.88 is required but was not
found. You may try to install ICU version 63.1, used to register the
collation in this database or look for 'gfix -icu' in Firebird
documentation.

I now have to see how to solve it since I have the stable version of Linux
installed.

Best Regards

You have an answer in error message:
gfix -icu
will help you. (run it directly on linux server)

Thank you very much.

I have already tested it and it works correctly.

I have also realized that I have to do it every time I need to change the database from a Linux server to a Windows one.

This did not happen before with Firebird 2.5

Best Regards

Copying of Firebird database between servers with different OSes always was
risky. It is recommended to do so using backup-restore.
