I have a proprietary Firebird 1.5 retail DB on windows 10. Im testing it on 11 with no significant issues so far. The publisher went out of business in 2019. The DB is still working, but I'm concerned about lifespan. It does what we need, but I'd like to upgrade or port and make some improvements. I'm not a sql programmer and would like to find someone to help explore options. Many thanks, Pete

Hello,

Few questions that may help.

1. Do you have the source code for the software also? So can you change it?
2. What kind of changes you're been thinking for the DB.
3. Have you been thinking to use new Firebird version also?

Hi Tommi, and thanks for the reply.

Unfortunately, I see no evidence of source code.

Changes would entail improving point of sale interface links to customer and inventory so we can do more entry steps within a single window, Currently, invoice entry, customers, and inventory are all edited in separate screens. This slows down new entries and editing. I would like to consolidate entries to a single screen. I have no issues with upgrading to the new version if it is possible and expedites the above.

I do have some prior relational database experience with modifying a business basic accounting system and developing various Filemaker systems, but its not more formal training and I have limited open time.

Let me know what you think and thanks for your input!

Best, Pete

These changes require the source code of your POS software, and you can't do
anything from the database side.
If you specify the publisher and product name, someone might point to a
successor.

The program is Anteq Mall Manager originally developed by Akalfon Enterprises and closed their doors in 2019. I have  tried tracking down the company that was located in Canada, but they have gone dark and I have not been able to locate a contact. The software was professionally designed and does what we need, but I want evolve so it is more suited expediting entry and processing. While I'm not necessarily opposed to redeveloping into a succesor package (with commercial potential possibly), we are a small retail biz and budget does matter.

Thanks for thoughts and input, Pete
