Hi
Does FireDAC work with Delphi 7 ? (yeah I know its old but we are upgrading after the database change once we decide which to change to).

If so, is there a download ? or.. what do others prefer for data access components ?

Cheers

Andy

I think firedac was introduced around 2012 or 2013. For sure not in D7 times...

Hello,

I would check Devart components. They do support Delphi 7.

UniDAC is very much like FireDAC. If you plan using FirebirdSQL only, you can also check IBDAC which is specific to FirebirdSQL and has additional features on top of UniDAC.

Thanks & Regards,

I've been testing FireDac with Delphi 10.4. I can't believe how slow it is compared to Advantage. Does it connect via ODBC ?
By slow I mean load a DBGrid with 50k records from a select * from query, then scroll down to the bottom, it takes minutes instead of a couple of seconds.
Hopefully it's FireDac which is the issue and not Firebird generally. Giving IBDac a go next.

This depend of your settings in firedac. Defsult it do not feth all records 50. Change it to fetch all and speed will "normal"

No. Access to a sequential SQL result set never can be as fast as positioned local file
seek.

Hi  Midsoft UK,

I sent you an e-mail regarding the ukDevGroup.  I hope you got it.  It would be interesting to have a talk on FB experience and decision making process etc.  I have been discussing and working on a FB1.5.6 + D7 + FibPLus + BDE + IBX -> D10.4.1 + FireDAC etc (although I found a GIThub of FibPlus for later versions of Delphi).
