Hello,

While back I saw some recommendations which could be a good starting point. Just have no idea where it was.

Of course anyones mileage will vary, but just some rule of thumb, when you know that machine should handle a high/higher load. Like a dedicated machine with ample free resources on current operation.

Where would you start from and how easily test this.

Parallel workers setting affect a very few very specific operations that
usually are not performed on high load systems. Namely backup-restore and index
rebuild.

Hello,

While this might be relevant and important information, it just did not answer my question.

I did not try to ask how it helps normal operation of the sever/database.

I would like to know mich multiplier would be good starting point for the parallel workers compared to core count. In other words where I should start?  Like. 0.5 * corecount. Or 2x, 10x or 50x...

Someone must have tested this when feature(s) has been in development.

I remember someone recommending something regarding of backup/restore. And have feeling suggestion was to use higher parallel workers count that there is cores in the computer. But as i said, have bo recollection where i read this...

Tried to google it while back, but no luck.

That pretty much depends on whether the database being backed up or
restored is the only database served on that server, and whether or not
the server is a dedicated Firebird server.
