Hello

Our "old" MS-Server 2019 is running with FB5.0.3. The Database is about 45GB.

The Backup needs 49min.

Now we have a "new" MS-Server 2025, run the same FB-Version and also the same settings.

But here the Backup takes about 69min. This is mutch longer. The speed of the backup is for me a good indicator you efficiency the FB-Server is running.

Does anyone have experience with MS-Server 2025. Is there something i can setup to made it faster?

Thanks in advanced

Both Server are virtual, and runs under the same hardware and have the same ressources

Are you sure both measurements are based on the exact same situation? For example check (clear) OS standby cache for the database-file when doing a test. What I mean, if the old server is serving the database for a while, it is very likely that big parts of the database are in RAM. When doing backup the data is taken from RAM instead of disk which is of course a lot faster.

For more speed, you have some options. please read the tips here: https://ib-aid.com/articles/firebird-gbak-backup-tips-and-tricks

OK, I understand that the new server is not yet in productive operation, but the old one is. I have now increased the PageSize to 16kB on the new server. Now the backup takes 40 minutes.

I have implemented the recommendations on the following page as far as possible, and that has helped.

For me, the backup time is just a simple indicator that roughly tells me something about the speed of the server.

How the speed behaves in productive operation will then become apparent.

All it tells about is raw disk speed. If you get it slower on the same
hardware - pay attention to disk drivers, FS prefetch settings etc.

Are you already using the -parallel <n> option of gbak? If not, setting
it may further improve backup speed.
