Hi

We got below error in Firebird log nad noone can work in our system.

Unable to complete network request to host "FB-PROD".

Timeout occurred while waiting for a secondary connection for event processing

Connection to serwer can be establisched but any query to Firebird by gds32 stopped working from all workstations ~400.

Connections by fbclient work ok.

What can be a cause of the problem? We do not use Firebird events at all.

Only restart of the serwer helped.

It looks like something indeed uses Firebird events. Do you have set RemoteAuxPort in firebird.conf and this port is allowed in the firewall?

We have this port set. But it is not allowed in Firewall.

But after this log in Firebird.log even from local network (outside of firewall) it do not allow to work in our system.

And we do not use Firebird events at all in any system but this is legacy Delphi IBX connection, so maybe somewhere IBX itself use events somehow…

So, when you use gds32.dll, it doesn't work, and when you use
fbclient.dll it does work? What is the version of gds32.dll?

After investigating deeper i found that we have old IBX IBEvents.

We do not have code handle on it, but there was 3 old event names and the AutoRegister was set to True.

But i still do not know why our application stop on any SQL request from the application when this log in Firebird.log was present.

I have checked any even simple select like SELECT COUNT(*) FROM RDB$DATABASE and then app stop on the request.

Hi

Again same problem

FB-PROD             Tue Aug 06 13:42:19 2024

Unable to complete network request to host "FB-PROD".

Timeout occurred while waiting for a secondary connection for event processing

The question is why it say about SECONDARY connections?

And is there a way to fix problem without restarting the server?

If you listen for events, the client library signals that it wants to
create a secondary connection (for the events), and the server then
sends back information for the client to connect and waits until the
client creates that secondary connection. If that doesn't happen in a
timely fashion, it results in a timeout

Impossible to tell without a reproducible case. Contrary to your
assertion, it sounds like some application is creating an event connection.

Yes, in our application we use AutoRegister with TIBEvents.

So, every application uses events by default.

What could be the cause? Restarting the Firebird service resolves the problem.

It seems like an issue with Firebird, not the external system.

But I do not know how I can dig deeper into this case.
