Happy New Year! I have already had 2 cases with a Firebird 2.5.9, on systems with WIN11, which recently had their monthly update. The connection to the database with the Local connection fails, although it worked without problems for a long time. And only the connection with TCP/IP, type localhost:path works. I don't know where the problem comes from and if I have any solution besides changing the connection type. Thank you.

Any error when "local connection fails" ? Any messages in firebird.log ?

Vlad

Today I had the same problem, but on a Win 10 after a windows update. The error I find in Firebird.log is

CONTABILITATE-P (Server) Tue Jan 13 08:11:00 2026
XNET error: XNET server initialization failed. Probably another instance of server is already running.
operating system directive CreateMutex failed
Cannot create a file when that file already exists.

I don't know if it's related to the original problem, of not working on Local, but only on localhost TCP.

It means you have more than one instance of Firebird server running. I doubt it is directly related with Windows
update. XNET (local) protocol listener was not initialized and not active in all instances except first started one.
