Is it possible to migrate a database from firebird 2.5 to 4.0?

Thanks for your support.

In broad strokes, performing a backup database under Firebird 2.5 with
gbak of Firebird 2.5, restore under Firebird 4.0 with gbak of Firebird
4.0 will do the trick.

Yes, the simplest way is to do a backup using gbak on FB 2.5 and a restore in FB 4, but there are many things that you should check to avoid bad surprises.

I wrote a +200 pages Migration Guide to Firebird 4 eBook that will help you to move to FB 4 avoiding such surprises. More information at https://www.firebirdnews.org/migration-guide-to-firebird-4/

We had a few fixes we had to do before we could restore into FB4, some TimeSTamp literals were unsupported in FB4, and some stored procs that did not return anything but had SUSPEND, and a few others, which I don't recall.

Given that most of those changes should have been done ages ago, because we knew those were problem, mainly the SUSPENDs that were not allowed in FB3 either If I recall)

So I would suggest (depending on your process), to first make all those changes in FB2.5x side, and make sure all are good, then migrate into FB4.

So you don't waste too much time on the migration, because at least we could do all those changes in FB2.5 first, without breaking anything.
