Hi everyone,

Firebird 5.0 isn't available in the Debian 13 native package repository, so I'll need to install it manually.

Besides the `libicu76` and `libtommath1` packages, does Firebird 5.0 require any other packages to be pre-installed on the system?

Do you have any plans to generate `.deb` packages instead of using `install.sh`?

Thanks in advance,
Luciano

No, AFAIR.

Linux zoo is too wild so providing of distro-specific packages is up to the
distro's authors.

Thank you very much for the confirmation, Dimitry!

I think that for this Linux zoo, we should have at least one .deb package for the king of beasts: Debian! (I'm just kidding! The install.sh is enough for me :)

Be warned, the install.sh script can't do upgrades and will overwrite
your config and security database - see
https://github.com/FirebirdSQL/firebird/issues/8116

I wrote an ansible role to install/upgrade Firebird 5 on Debian for me.

Even Debian unstable unfortunately still does not have Firebird 5.

Exactly. The install.sh command overwrites the entire previous installation. I also created a shell script to reconfigure everything again (firebird.conf, databases.conf, users, etc.).

Even Debian unstable unfortunately still does not have Firebird 5.
