replication.conf plugin setting

In the default replication.conf, the plugin setting is listed under
"PRIMARY SIDE SETTINGS", implying it's only for the primary. However, I
assume that it can also be configured for the replica.

Is that assumption right? If not, how does the replica know which plugin
to use? (Especially since the names _can_ be different given how you can
use a different name in plugins.conf.)

Replica don't use plugin for applier because it needs access to very deep
engine internals. Incoming data format is fixed.

Similarly, are log_errors and disable_on_error also only for the primary?

Yes, they are used only by publisher.
