About the limit of Firebase Analytics custom events

In the document, it says "If your app needs to collect additional data, you can log up to 500 different Analytics Event types in your app.".
Does anyone know how does the limit work?
Let's say there are 100 event types using in my project. We rename all of the event types in the following app version.
So does it mean that we use 200 event types or 100?
If yes, how to reset the number as the previous 100 event types would not be used any more?

Users of version 1 and 2 would log 200 of the 500 event types.  New users of version 2 would only use 100 of the 500 event types.

To start over, you can create a fresh Firebase project.

One approach which is helpful here is to use a test Firebase project during testing and validation and then switch to your production Firebase project for release.
