Web Push Notifications API on Chrome iOS

Is this possible?  I'm following the instructions here: https://firebase.google.com/docs/cloud-messaging/js/client

The code works on desktop and Android, but does not work on iOS with Chrome (latest) 54.0.2840.91.  I get an error: "Messaging: This browser doesn't support the API's required to use the firebase SDK. (messaging/unsupported-browser)." 

Just wondering if this is something that should be possible (the web page I referenced indicates Chrome 50+), or if it will be possible in the near future.  This is for an enterprise type of app with a small number of users, so I will have some control over minimum browser requirements for my users.

Unfortunately not at the moment. Chrome on iOS is limited to the underlying js engine provided by Apple, which does not yet support service workers.

The WebKit team has marked service worker as under consideration, but it's likely to be some time still before this changes.
