Firebase Hosting very slow after each deploy / on first load

We have found Firebase Hosting to be crazy slow on the first load after a new deployment.

It is in the range of 3-25seconds to load a single asset, this can push our loading times very high after a deployment for our first user in each CDN region.

My belief/guess is this is caused by the CDN having to check, invalidate its cache and re-cache the data.

While is understandable that before it's been cached by a local CDN its slower, the fact that its so slow is unusual.

After we've loaded it once after a new deployment, our load times drop to <300ms for subsequent visitors.

While not a big issue, it is annoying for people who happen to be our first visitor in a CDN region, especially as sometimes as we do multiple deployments a day.

Are there any plans to address this?

Is this a consistent problem or did it only happen at a specific time? In general, our origin latency (which will happen after a fresh deploy) is certainly slower than the CDN, but not in the range of 25 seconds to load a single asset. If you're seeing otherwise, especially if you can reliably reproduce the issue, we'd be happy to take a closer look to see what might be wrong.

We checked this from multiple locations yesterday and were having the issue everywhere (was very noticeable because we were deploying a new and very small static site).

Checking today, we are not having the same issues after deployment. It is only about 100-200ms longer on first load.

I will keep and eye on it, and write here if it comes up again.

Thanks Michael

Seeing this issue as well, although not even after a fresh deploy.

The TTFB was 27 seconds for a simple static image pulled from firebase hosting. was occurring yesterday as well..

Hello!

I'm noticing this very same problem. I have a newsletter that goes out every few days to the same page but with different url params. The first request with those params takes a very long time. The first request usually results in the following error:

Error 503 first byte timeout

first byte timeout

Subsequent requests are a lot  faster. Is there a way to help debug this issue? I'm getting this problem almost weekly.

The page is super lightweight (1kb) and really shouldn't be causing this problem.

Thanks!

To follow up here, this was due to incident: https://status.firebase.google.com/incident/Hosting/18002
