Status of FirebaseUI library?

The FirebaseUI library for Android hasn't seen a new release since September 2022, and in its list of issues, I've just stumbled upon the claims among others that it uses the deprecated SafetyNet (vs. Play Integrity), or that the library doesn't work altogether in SDK34 projects.

There also is a question about the maintenance status of the library that has been unanswered for nine months.

At the same time, the library is still suggested in official Firebase docs (for example here), although that doc might need an update as well - the current version of the library is 8.0.2, while the doc suggests depending on 7.2.0.

For what it's worth, I started investigating this after building a release failed with errors after updating the project's com.google.android.gms:play-services-auth dependency from 20.7.0 to 21.0.0, which might be related to removal of the Credentials API there. FirebaseUI still uses 20.3.0.

So, is this library still being maintained or not - and if not, what are possible alternatives?

There has been no reply to or at least acknowledgement of this question in several weeks, so I am asking again: is the "FirebaseUI-Android" library that is provided by the official Firebase account over on GitHub still being maintained?

If it is, can we get a statement about how long it will take before com.google.android.gms:play-services-auth:21.0.0 will be supported (and probably deprecated stuff like SafetyNet be removed)?

If it is NOT, is there any information on how to best update an app that currently relies on it to work without it. (Note: in this case, Firebase docs should be updated as well, see above.)

Still trying to get an official response here: com.google.android.gms:play-services-auth is now at version 21.2.0, but we keep being forced to use at most version 20 in combination with the Firebase UI Auth library. Additionally, there are open issues claiming that the library just won't work while targeting Android SDK 34 - something that we will have to do starting next month, leaving us about six weeks to get this resolved one way or the other.

If you are not going to update the UI libraries offered by you, can we at least get an official statement along those lines, so that we know where we're at? I'd hate to rip out the whole logic, just to learn that an update is still forthcoming.
