Hello,

I understand from reading some past threads that there is no official support for IPv6 with firebase hosting but that there is some unsupported/unofficial way to get it done. For my own needs (and I assume the needs of many others) I can't go with unsupported or unofficial technology. Are there any plans in progress to add official, documented support for IPv6?

Thanks,
Keith

IPv6 is supported by hosting. Did you find that it was not supported? Could you share what you are looking for as official support?

Hi Arthur,

Thanks for replying. I could be making a mistake somewhere. I'm basing my comment on two things.

2) I just published a site for my app (not yet released to app stores) to firebase hosting. The url is https://ferntask.com. When I check this domain for IPv6 support using https://geekflare.com/tools/ipv6-test the tool reports that IPv6 isn't supported.

If the instructions on firebase console for connecting your domain to firebase hosting result in an IPv6 enabled site then that is completely sufficient.

Best, Keith

Hi Keith,

If you set your AAAA record of 2620:0:890::100 it should work.

Thanks Arthur,

I think I'll go ahead and do that. I'm really hoping google will document this process for two reasons:
  1. setting up a site with IPv6 should be considered a default, first-class option in 2022 in my opinion. It helps everyone to push toward critical mass on this.
  2. If it isn't written down somewhere then google can change it/disable it with no notice and we can't really complain about unsupported features disappearing
Best,
Keith
