Rare NullPointerException in com.google.android.gms triggered by FirebaseRemoteConfig.getInstance()

I got automated reports of this rare NPE on just 4 devices in 2 days, app compiled with Firebase 9.0.1:

java.lang.NullPointerException: Attempt to read from field 'int com.google.android.gms.d.o$c.a' on a null object reference

at com.google.firebase.b.a.a(Unknown Source)

at com.google.firebase.b.a.a(Unknown Source)

at com.google.firebase.b.a.a(Unknown Source)

at <redacted package name>.f.g(SourceFile:193)

line 193 is just:

FirebaseRemoteConfig config = FirebaseRemoteConfig.getInstance();


The devices concerned are:

- Samsung SM-G360T / Android 5.1.1
- Bmobile Bmobile_AX810 / Android 5.1
- Samsung SM-J700F / Android 5.1.1
- bq Aquaris_X5_Plus / Android 6.0.1

I've seen now seen reports of this crash from 50 distinct users over the course of 3 weeks for an app that has a large install base.
Will it been fixed / looked into for the next update ?

b0b, i am just another user, but I would expect that contacting firebase customer support might be a better place to help find a cause.
