Using firebase in china

Foreign HTTPS connections normally don't do well in China. My site is pretty unstable for users there -- actually, the static elements normally load pretty well, but the data normally lags or doesn't load at all. Any potential solutions for using a firebase site inside the great firewall? I can't expect my users to always use a vpn.
