Hello,

I read all the documentation I found and searched the web, but I could not find any helpful information... I hope it is not a dumb question.

I see a huge difference in one day retention between Firebase and GooglePlay Console. Does anyone know why, experience the same or the opposite?

Thanks in advance,
Stefano

Hi Stefano,

Can you quantify a "huge difference"? There are a number of contributors as Play and Firebase calculate these numbers in fundamentally different ways--they should not be expected to match up perfectly.

Hello Kato,
 I
thanks for the answer. As you can see in the attached screenshots, firebase calculates that less than 7% of the users come back after one day in the month of Jan, while the google console shows a 28.5%. I would expect some differences but this seems too high.

Hi Stefano,

That seems significant, but is likely related to some discrepancy in time ranges, and other non-obvious detail.

Would you mind reaching out to support and providing them as much detail to reproduce as possible? For example:
  • Time range in reports for two platforms
  • Are you looking at retention for just acquisition in Google Play? (Screenshot says "acquisition channel").

While this is an old topic, the answer could be useful for others who stumble upon the same issue. The retention numbers are different because they measure different things:

- Google Play Console retention is "percentage of users who still have your app installed"

- Firebase retention is "percentage of users who still use your app"

It is expected to have a lower amount in Firebase, as many users might still have your app installed on their devices without actually opening it again.
