I'm hoping someone from Firebase Analytics and Big Query can help.  After linking Firebase to Big Query yesterday, I have been charged $45.

My goal: I wanted to access my custom events and params from Firebase analytics, so yesterday I upgraded from Firebase Spark free tier to Blaze pay as you go so that I could access Big Query.

My app: The app is under testing - there's only 2 users playing with it at the moment.

How I'm using FB and BQI am only using Firebase Analytics and am not accessing any other part of Firebase (no real time databases, no crash analytics, no messaging - only analytics).
For Big Query, the only part I am using is to view my data from Firebase.  (Firebase analytics -> Events screen -> View in Big Query).
I linked Big Query to my app 24 hours ago - so far the dataset has not auto populated.  I haven't accessed any part of Big Query yet - I haven't run any queries on public datasets, as I'm waiting for my app dataset to populate from Firebase.

My cost expectations: We should have 1 TB of free queries before being charged $5 per additional TB.  Given my app has minimal data and I haven't run any queries yet, I expected this cost to be $0.

My questions:
1) How did O end up being charged $45?
2) Where can I go to view my charges to date?  I can only see this charge via my credit card - is there a dashboard or console in Big Query where I can see my spend to date?
3) How can I get a refund for the $45?  There's meant to be a two month free trial period.

Thanks in advance

This is not an official comment, I am just another user like you.  I would suggest that you contact support .. here is the link for reporting billing issue: https://firebase.google.com/support/contact/account-services/

Hi Lyn,

This doesn't add up.  You should contact support to get to the bottom of the nature of these charges.

BigQuery storage costs are $0.02 per GB per month and -- as you mentioned -- you get 1TB of free queries per month.  Based on the description of your usage, you should not be charged anything at this point for your BigQuery usage.

Thanks Joe, appreciate the link, I've contacted support.

Hi Steve,

Thanks for the advice.  I'll investigate further - seems like an error.

By the way - it has been more than 24 hours and I still don't have a dataset in Big Query.  Is there something else that I need to do? I have already linked it to my Firebase account.

Thanks,
Lyn

Bear in mind that linking is prospective.  In other words, once you link, events that you log from that point onwards will be sent to BigQuery.  So my guess is that you have not logged events since you established the link.  If that's not the case, you might want to contact support to look into it more deeply.

Hi Steve,

I have one query on Firebase liking with Bigquery. Today I linked my project with BigQuery and I can see events which were captured before linking the project with Bigquery in BigQuery preview.
I am in IST timezone.

These are likely events which were sent late (perhaps the device was offline for 1-2 days before its connection allowed it to upload the events).

Thanks Steve, I understood your point. But in my case events were run on the iOS simulator and I never started simulator post linking firebase project. I think these events were stored into firebase before I linked the project and synced into the Bigquery at EOD.(in PST time-zone)

My assumption is Firebase syncs all data into BigQuery for particular day (in PST timezone) and time does not matter, if linking happens at any time that day.

The export to BigQuery currently happens once a day, in the morning of your app's timezone.
