Firebase to introduce support for Play Referrer API?

Hello, I haven't been able to find any documentation on this subject so here goes - Firebase currently supports the install referrer intent broadcast out of the box for collecting traffic source information. This feature is going to be sunset, in favor of the Play Install Referrer API, according to Android Developers Blog:

Will the Firebase SDK be updated to include an integration with this new API, in order to collect traffic source information automatically for us, or will we need to build this into our applications on our own?
