I currently have 2 projects, when I try to Import either of them I get the error:

There was an error when importing the project.

Also when I try creating a new project I get the error

You have exceeded the maximum number of free projects that you can create. Try deleting some projects via Project settings or request a project limit increase.

Anyone else seeing these issues?  Maybe just issues related to the spike in load after the announcement?  I've been able to create more than 2 projects before in the old console.

Kasey,

You can only have a small number of free projects. It counts both cloud and firebase projects so you'll need to delete some of your test accounts first.

If you run into a special case, reach out to support: firebase.google.com/support

Thanks Kato! I did have more than 10 projects between GCP and Firebase.  I deleted a few of those (and switched Google logins until the deletes go through a week later).  Works now.

Thanks for confirming Kasey! Sorry about the unclear error message. We're looking how to improve it.

I have one project and I get that message about an error importing the project with no instruction on what to do. Really frustrating...

Can you have a look at the JavaScript console and share any relevant messages from there?

I have this problem too. When I submitted the "Import" form the following message appeared in the console:

In case that gives you a hint, here's what my console looks like:

Thanks,
James

Pretty much same issue here except that my POST request is failing with a 403 instead of a 400. I have 1 firebase project and one google cloud project.

Hi Gents,

If you are seeing an error that you have too many projects and you have less than 10, then as previously mentioned, please reach out to support.

Hi Kato,

I don't get an error about having too many projects. My error is a slightly less helpful:

The above modal is displayed at the same time the previous 400 error appears in the console.

Happy to take the issue to support@... but thought solving it here might help more than just me.

Thanks,
James

As I understand it, the likely causes of that error are:
  • We've flagged your account for some special consideration (you're relying on some obscure, undocumented API behavior that will break when you upgrade)
  • Some migration-related tool hiccuped and the migration ended in a bad state (so we need to do something manual to make sure that nothing gets lost in translation)
  • You've found an obscure and exciting bug (unlikely but possible).
Naturally, it's a high probability that it's specific to your app. Support is definitely the way to go here.

Hi James -

On Tuesday, we deployed a fix that should address the project import problems you were previously experiencing. When you get a moment, try importing your project once again and let me know if you continue to run into any problems.

Thanks for your help and patience as we sorted this out, and don't hesitate to reach out if I can help out with anything else.

I have exactly the same problem.
Unable to import,... and unable to create new projects even though I've deleted all but 3.

I'm entirely unable to start a new project.
Contacted support yesterday but no updates as of yet.

Very frustrating.

Hi Derek,

I've grabbed your issue from the queue and I'll push to see what we can do. It would help if you could add as much detail to your issue as possible so that we can isolate what's different about your case, and why it wasn't resolved by the fixes Rob made yesterday.

We'll work on these as fast as possible. Hang in there.

For setting proper expectations here, it's only been about 3 business hours since you submitted your issue. Our community is closing in on three quarters of a million developers and support is free to all. The support agents have a very busy job. They're doing great work keeping up with the volume, so let's be patient with them.

☼, Kato
