Is it possible to stagger or batch an app push notification send using Firebase Cloud Messaging?
I need to send an app push to the full based of app users and would like to stagger the send throughout the day due to SLA and call volumes it could cause.

Is this possible?

Thanks so much,
SL

Hello Sheryl-Lynn,

Sumit from the Firebase team here! One option that might work depending on your user base that won't require additional work is using a combination of Analytics audiences and using audience targeting with Firebase Cloud Messaging.

So depending on how your users are distributed, you could create audiences by say age and gender in Analytics, and then create scheduled FCM messages targeted to each audience. It might not be an even distribution across all your users for each age / gender, but if the numbers work out for the call volume threshold it can be one potential solution.

Hope that helps!

I suppose, building off of this, you could also set a user property to divide them into more even groups, or even just create multiple FCM topics (A specific user can subscribe to up to 2K topics) and stagger out the sends that way.

Yup!

In case there wasn't already a custom user property set that could be used though, the first "out of the box" properties that could be used straight away were age / gender, but yes a custom user property would work even better.
