Hi,

I am using React native firebase, latest v5.5.6; and I am facing random issue on android devices, for a very few users.

Some users manage to authenticate in the app, but then are completely stuck on infinite loading, which means that the initial query to firebase realtime database never returns any result.

It's like the endpoint of firebase just won't answer (I am unable to reproduce this issue on my side, so I can't catch the error if there is any)

HOWEVER, where it gets interesting is that as soon as they connect through a VPN (or change their IP address, very simply) then everything works fine for them again.

Which leads me to believe there might be some kind of "blacklisting" on firebase side?

This has been happening for all users in Egypt for the past month; which lead me to believe at first it was the kind of issue we see with Iran or UAE sometimes blocking some google services you guys rely on.

BUT lately it also started happening to some indonesian users, as well as americans.

WHY does changing the IP resolve firebase connection issue for these users, right away?

If there was any problem in my firebase configuration, it wouldn't work for all users, but it works fine for 99% of users.

Did anyone face the same issue? Can an engineer from Firebase enlighten me on that one? (I contacted their support but I am always redirected here so...)

Thank you in advance for your help!

Hello Pierre,

I don't see anything on the transparency report, but it is possible that Egypt or ISPs within have blocked some Google IPs. It's also possible that if an IP has been associated with abusive and malicious behavior that it's blocked by Google's data centers for some time. But none of these things are within Firebase's purview and we certainly wouldn't be able to offer you any sort of list.

Please send #the case id (found in the auto reply subject) to my direct email address if you haven't received quality support. But to reiterate, Firebase doesn't control the internet or even Google data centers, so we can't tell you why a particular IP might have access restrictions. The internet is a big place; it could be any number of services between the client and Firebase servers that is restricting access.

☼, Kato
