ML Kit On-Device Text Recognition algorithms

Hello! I am writing my bachelors' thesis and I was wondering about the algorithms used in ML Kit On-Device Text Recognition.

I scoured the Internet, but didn't find any good information nor documentation on this.

Maybe someone can provide me with a website, that explains what actually goes on behind the curtains.

Hi Sander,

It's unlikely Google can share their specific algorithm as this is a competitive field and likely involves trade secrets. However, it looks like there is a good deal of material available on the topic you could use to understand the basic theories.

It seems like the key elements are the algorithm used to recognize letters (e.g. region growing) and using context to improve accuracy (i.e. scene text recognition).
