Due to legislative requirements we are required to locate the server in Australia.  Currently we are told that the server is located in the US.  This is a critical requirement for this Firebase product to Australia based for verified use by government.  Please advise when this will be implemented

Which service are you using? For many services we have no plans currently on Australia-based service locations, but you can create a Google Cloud Storage bucket in that region for example.

I am using firebase realtime database, and due to legislative reasons, this must reside in Australia.

Is the realtime database that firebase uses stored in Australia, or can it be stored to a google storage bucket instead?

thanks

Firebase Realtime Database and Firestore both store data in central U.S. only. No ballparks or public release dates on when you will be able to selection locations in other countries or which countries will be available.

As an alternative can a google storage bucket be used as the realtime database that firebase uses?

No it cannot, the buckets mentioned are only used with Cloud Storage for Firebase.  As Kato/Ian said, data in the Realtime Database cannot be located in Australia right now.
