How do I set up campaign attribution using referral strings?

Attribution shows for Adwords but not for anything else. I know at least one partner is sending referral strings.

com.google.ads.conversiontracking.InstallReceiver

is in the manifest, which is probably why it is getting the Adwords referals but it must be throwing out all the other data.

For example, this explains how using Google Analytics.

But it notes at the top:

And that is why I have used Firebase Analytics, to have the latest and greatest.

But there are no instructions in Firebase Analytics for referrals.

So would I have to re implement everything using Google Analytics to get that?

Why does Firebase Analytics have a spot for sources if we can't use them?
