I received a mail recently stating that for using firebase cloud functions, i will have to update to blaze plan.
Will my existing projects under spark plan work if i dont upgrade to blaze?

Hi Chahat,

There's some nuance here so I'll try to be as clear as possible.
  • On June 22, 2020 it will be necessary to upgrade to the Blaze plan to deploy new or updated Node 10 functions.
  • Already deployed Node 10 functions will continue to run on Spark plans without intervention for the time being.
  • Node 8 functions will continue to be able to be deployed on the Spark plan after June 22, 2020. However, the Node 8 runtime is being deprecated, so
    • All Node 8 function create / update operations will be halted on February 15, 2021.
    • All Node 8 function executions will be halted on March 15, 2021.
We strongly recommend upgrading your functions to Node 10 as Node 8 has reached end-of-life and will become less and less secure over time. You have some time to figure out what to do, but it's probably best to think of Cloud Functions for Firebase as a service that will require the Blaze plan going forward. It's important to note that while the plan will require a credit card, you will not necessarily be charged as the Blaze plan retains all of the free tier of Spark (and, in fact, in some places has a higher free tier).

For more information please see the Firebase FAQ.

Thanks,
Michael

okay thankyou.
If i go for a blaze plan, is there any method in there where i can strictly set the deductible amount to 0$( so that in case any chargeable action is done, the programme stops/crashes but no charge is billed)?

Hi Chahat,

Google Cloud / Firebase do not support strict budgets in that way, but you could set a billing alert at $0.01 to let you know as soon as your project incurs a billable charge:

Hi Chachat

Just in case you haven't already, make sure to collect the $300 Credit from GCP, is 1 year trial, that will keep your peace of mind, or experiment with your costs. at least for a year, that is if you have not claimed it yet.
